2 Insights for Giving Dynamic, Interesting Presentations

dynamic presentations

Dang! I love a good rant. And this Event Manager blog post about meetings does not disappoint.

While the post is interesting in and of itself, move past the technology and event business. Pay more attention to items 24, 25, 30, 31 and 32—which are about conferences and event speakers. Key takeaways:

• People think the audience is smarter than the speaker. Translation: Your content is old wine in a new bottle. Do this instead: Drill down and go for the nuances. Savvy thought leaders take advantage of what the audience already knows and go into uncharted territory.

Listen: How to take advantage of the smart people in the room

• Your story and experience can’t be all you have. Translation: We don’t care about your “I’m cool” stories and experience. Everybody has those. Do this instead: Use these as a springboard into new information for the audience. Again, you’re exploring uncharted territory

The best thing about rants is that they bring out what is believed but unspoken. Let’s pay attention to these items and up our game.
