50 Shades of Sacrifice

This weekend, we in the United States took a break to remember our fellow citizens who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy our freedom-loving lifestyle.  (And our God-given right to go shopping.)  This year, I respectfully suggest that we redefine the term.

Thanks to medical terminology, there are many soldiers who came home alive — broken bones and missing limbs, but alive.  Thanks to multiple tours and what happens in war zones, many come home with broken hearts.  Instead of dying on the outside, they are dying on the inside.

These soldiers sacrificed their mental and emotional lives.  They are still suffering.  And I am skeptical that they are getting the help they need.

Perhaps the best way to honor those who gave their lives is to help their comrades who are still here and need an extra hand.  A good place to show our appreciation are organizations such as http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/

I’ve put my money where my keyboard is.  Hope you will join me.
