Big Experts for Less Money

Talk about disruptions.  Consulting company Wikistrat is changing the game on how consultants get and use information.

According to this Fast Company article, in-house analysts are replaced by a larger group of 850 experts participating in different solutions. They are paid a flat fee plus bonuses for “winning.” These projects take 3 to 4 weeks, use 50 to 100 analysts who work between 5 and 12 hours per week.

Who pays for these crowd-sourcing reports? Government agencies and multi-national corporations. Who participates? Recognizable names such as national security guru, Thomas P.M. Barnett; foreign policy scholar, Anne-Marie Slaughter; and counter-terrorism expert, Daveed Gartenstein-Ross.  Wow,

Whether this is a fad or a trend is irrelevant.  The big question here: what happens to fee schedules when you can get big names for less? My bet: this isn’t the end of gamification with top talent. For more information, read this article.
