Call The Game

Heads up:  one of my favorite TED talks is online.  Social entrepreneur Dan Pallotta blasts the double standard between charities and corporate America and offers a new way forward in this TED talk.

Two reasons why we need to pay attention to folks like Dan.  First, he’s done something big.  Something recognizable.  (Everyone knows — or has participated — in those three-day walks for breast cancer.)  Folks who select keynote speakers want people like that.  So do big bureaus such as American Program Bureau and All American Speakers Bureau.

Second, his point of view goes beyond his story.  He doesn’t just give a blow-by-blow account on how his business imploded in 2002.  He uses his experience to advocate a new way of creating charitable organizations.  He redefined how (and why) we give.

We have a lot to learn from Dan — and not just about charities.
