How Thought Leaders Take Control of the Conversation

I’ve preached for years about how sought-after thought leaders (and their companies) redefine the journey of their community travels. This strategy+business article is a great example of that redefining in action.

This article outlines how automotive giant Honda fixes a big problem found very late in the manufacturing process. The best part: showing the messiness and time it took to find the best solution.

Move past the details and look at the structure. Why this is a great example of redefining the journey:

  • It shows the on-the-ground perspective behind what everyone wants: innovative solutions. This perspective shows the price to be paid. Compare that to all the platitudes we hear about innovation. This authenticity signals to the market that you know where the bodies are buried.
  • The story is the star, not the insights. This articles goes beyond the “insight, now here’s a story to back that up” approach we all use. The story — with all it’s details — allows the reader to discover the brilliance themselves. Then the author notes the insight: embracing paradox. It’s showing vs. telling.

Showing the one thing (in this article, disagreements) that changes everything is the mark of brilliance. This is a great benchmark for all thought leaders. Read this article and adapt your content accordingly.
