How Thought Leaders Use Books to Justify Big Fees

We all have bad days sometimes.  I was in the middle of gutting one out when the phone rang.  I thought, “What is it this time?”  My mood brightened when it was Kirk Dando on the other end of the line with good news.

Kirk and I worked together twice.  Once on messaging his brilliance and second for refining his book.  He was calling about the book launch.  The bottom line:  within four days of the launch, Predictive Leadership made the best-seller list at CEO Reads (this is good because Kirk works with top execs).  Within 45 days of launch, he got his first speech — at $15,000.

The moral of the story is two-fold:  1) yes, there are still high-fee speaking opportunities for authors.  The free “speaking for exposure” adventure isn’t the only route; and, 2) the ROI for the investment you make in positioning the book is in how fast you get results in the launch phase.
