Let’s Be Independent

Tomorrow is Independence Day for the United States. We celebrate with fireworks, BBQ and when I was growing up, ice-cold wedges of watermelon.

Now that I’m older, I’m celebrating by becoming more independent.  This year, I’ve decided to no longer be dependent on what’s cheap and easy. Instead, I’m gonna decide what I want and figure out what it will take to get there. Then I’m gonna decide again if I still want what I want and if so, just do it. No stories. No excuses.

Here’s why: when we focus on cheap and easy, we often go down the wrong road. Why? Because nothing is cheap, easy and free. There’s always a price. We just don’t know the price until we have to pay it. Want an example? It’s easier to eat cheap and easy food than to cook with fresh (and more expensive) food. The price we pay: the pounds we gain.

Apply this to our businesses. Is there a road we should take but don’t because it’s not easy? Let’s be independent. Think for ourselves. And eat more watermelon.
