Navigating the Who Moved My Cheese Economy

I’m getting tired (and more impatient) with people’s “the sky is falling” perspective.  Yes, there are major budget cuts.  Yes, fees in some sectors are falling.  This is a Who Moved My Cheese economy.  But things are not at a standstill.  The opportunities are out there.  And the experts who apply their expertise to this new reality are busy as ever.

A great example:  Turbo Charge client R. Alan Smith of Build Momentum Now! (Yes, that’s his real name.) We worked together when he was below the radar, and branded his background in political execution to a broader area. Not only did his momentum theme hit a home run in boom times, it also gave him a credible platform to speak about surviving the current economy. Instead of advocating momentum for growth, he now drills down on savvy political skills that create turnaround momentum in uncertain times. Same song, just a different verse. Result: his email newsletters are generating real opportunities for both revenue and media. He’s busy as ever.

Bottom line: Hope is not a strategy. A strong brand allows room to adjust and grow. It builds a platform that is nimble enough to address new challenges without looking like you’re trying too hard.
