Like any other buyer, editors are slammed with not-too-subtle marketing messages.  Don’t be those people.  Instead, put some journalistic elbow grease into your work.  Interview other major thinkers (yep, this is a door-opener) and back up your perspective with stats.  This is how editors separate the thought leaders from the marketing twits.
