Step Into 2013

Happy New Year!!  Whew, the holidays flew by in a flash.  Time to get to work.

I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions.  I create themes for the year — a north star that I use as a focal point to compare my behavior to.  The theme for 2013:  be happy.  And according to these studies by Stanford and Harvard’s Business School, it’s much easier than we think.

This study tested big abstract goals vs. smaller steps.  The winner:  smaller steps put more fuel in our happiness tank on a day-to-day basis.  Why?  Because it closes the gap between expectation and reality.

Small acts have a big impact.  It’s the things we do every day that create our happiness — not the big stuff.  So here’s your homework assignment:  one thing.  Every day.  My best is when we increase our happiness we also increase our business success.  After all, who doesn’t want to work with happy inspired people?
