Top Implementation Problems

As a market strategist, I work a lot with folks who are making big changes.  To help experts implement their plans, I provide ongoing guidance and feedback.  From my front row seat, here are a few unscientific observations on the top problems of implementing any market strategy:

  • Implementing with an old mindset.  What works in your previous life may not work if you are entering a new marketplace.  The problem: many folks don’t even know they are putting old wine in a new bottle.  Example: a corporate executive turned B-to-B entrepreneur assumes their credentials will get an immediate response.  This mindset impacts every one of your actions.
  • Gliding back to old ideas.  Even if you embrace a better strategy, it’s easy to use the old ideas as the lead in.  Example: a trainer turned keynoter uses learner objectives to described their new topics.
  • Choosing the wrong partner for the wrong reason.  Yes, we don’t do everything ourselves.  We need to complete the tasks.  Example:  one client chose to work with a biz development firm because “they are excited about my new project.” I explained that a lot of folks would be excited to work with them. This fell on deaf ears. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

When trying something new, everyone needs a pair of fresh eyes to make sure they are doing the right things at the right time. The sharpest knife can’t carve its own handle. If you want quicker results, check out strategic sounding boards. I’m happy to help anytime.
