Training Trends for 2013

So many predictions, so little time.  I can’t let first quarter end without passing along this Bersin by Deloitte study on talent management.  It’s a great snapshot on what visionary companies have on their radar.

Don’t have time to read the entire report?  No worries.  Josh Bersin does a great job with the highlights in this Forbes articles.  Pay attention to:

  • “Agile management”.  Why?  Because everyone has read the memo that top-down management doesn’t work in a cloud-based world.  Why we care:  leadership skills will change to a more hands-on role and, yes, organizations need our help with this.
  • Global leadership and talent.  Both are white hot and will drive a lot of opportunities.  Diversity and global experts, do your happy dances now.  Then get to work.  If you can’t grow your business with this much awareness, you have a bigger problem.
  • Non-classroom content.  Remember “informal learning”?  Meet it’s younger, tech-savvy sibling, “continuous capability development”.  This statistic says it all:  while corporate training is up 12% in 2012, 60% of all learning and development dollars are now spent on “non-classroom” content and programs.  Translation:  if your revenue is based on the classroom, you’re in trouble.

These studies give us the heads-up we need to stay ahead of the curve.  Don’t just read and ponder.  Ask yourself:  what am I going to change this year to take advantage of the above changes?
