When Experts Are Wrong

It’s true:  no one has a crystal ball.  And it’s the big “the one that got away” stories that bring home this sad fact.  One of my favorites is from the world of rock and roll:  when famous record label Decca turned down The Beatles.  This article outlines the inside scoop on what really happened and the lessons learned.

While reading this article, I asked myself…  How did this world-famous record label, the giant at the time, miss the future icons?  The answer lies in lesson #2:  the record label was listening for what they already had.  Not what was interesting or original; what was already successful at that time.  Therefore, they weren’t listening at all.

This is an easy mistake to make.  We get so caught up in success that once something works, we have a tendency to hold on for dear life.  The problem:  we miss what’s next.
