Why It’s Gonna Get Harder to Get Your Speaking Fees in 2015

For thought leaders who want high-fee speaking engagements, get ready for some headwinds. According to this Successful Meetings article, outside forces are impacting meeting budgets. Pay attention to these two trends:

  • Hotels are going rogue. They are just saying no to last-minute meetings, set dates and other requests. Buyers are bracing for tough negotiating ahead and already expect to give on dates and lead times.
  • Big experience, small budget. Buyers have pressure from both sides now: not only to account for every dollar, but also to create a big “wow” every moment. Watch for big requests for the same (or smaller) fee.

On a brighter note: opportunities abound. Training meetings are projected to increase nine percent this year, according to American Express. And multiple generations attending meetings opens the door for other revenue streams such as gamification.
