End of Summer – A Time to Reflect
Yep, it’s that time of year again in the U.S. The end of summer is upon us with the upcoming Labor Day weekend. Around this time, I pause and do something I rarely do: look backwards.
As I reflect on my work life, I remember a conversation I had with my dad many years ago. A railroad man for over four decades, he was flabbergasted that I would expect to enjoy my work. In a fit of exasperation, he bellows: “It’s called work for a reason.” I still chuckle at that.
I am blessed to find a place where I can do great work for people I grow quite fond of. I’m blessed to see people grow and use my gifts to serve the greater good. I’m blessed to feel like I’ve made a difference.
During this time of one more cook out or pool party, let’s take a minute and celebrate that we live in an age where work can be any experience we want. And then … let’s go to work.
