Forget Resolutions—Try Acts of Kindness Instead

During the quiet time between Christmas and New Year’s, I get reflective. I digest what happened and decide what I want to do next.
While this year was a bit calmer than the infamous circus of 2024, I witnessed many things I wish I hadn’t. The struggles people face are starting to show up in everyday interactions. It feels like the benefit of the doubt is disappearing. It feels like everyone is out for themselves.
In response, I’ve decided to be the counterprogramming. I’m looking for opportunities to share a laugh, to be kind. If someone has fewer groceries than me, they can go ahead in the checkout line. If I see a car that no one will let merge, they can get in front of me. I can deal with disrespect without giving up my peace.
Yes, I’m only one person. But imagine what would happen if a bunch of us went rogue with acts of kindness. Sure, we won’t stop bad things from happening, but we can create magical moments that counteract the damage. Who knows? Maybe we give a little hope out there.
Who’s with me? We ride at dawn.
