Gratitude On The Ground

Between our big 20th wedding anniversary trip and going back to Harvard, the geek-in-chief and I are up for a quiet Thanksgiving dinner at home. We’ll go to our favorite restaurant and have the traditional dinner. (Yep, pumpkin pie will be the star.)

And we’ll talk about how lucky we are. That we have our health. That our families are health, too. And that we all have each other. The big challenge: how to remember this luck when life throws a curve ball.

My theory: it’s easy to be grateful at 30,000 feet. To take a day or so and remember all that we have. Being grateful on the ground — as in every day, no matter what happens — can be more daunting. And yet, that’s where the magic of gratitude resides. Because gratitude turns into hope, which turns into resilience. Combine those three things and we are unstoppable.

Happy Thanksgiving to my U.S. readers. And may we all remember to be grateful every day.
