Finding Meaning in Work Through Service and Contribution

While Labor Day weekend doesn’t translate to cooler weather here in Phoenix, it does signal that the end of summer is near—and it often prompts reflection on how we’re finding meaning in work and in life. (Though getting back to double-digit temperatures cannot come soon enough for me.)

While I sought out places to keep cool, I also spent time pondering my contribution to my community and the world—and finding meaning in work that shapes that contribution. I asked myself several big, 30,000-foot questions: Am I giving enough? Am I making a difference? What does my participation in the world look like now and moving forward?

What I realize is that size doesn’t matter. Every act of service is a representation of who we are as humans. Our work is merely a container full of experiences large and small that tell the world what we stand for. Our impact reflects our role in the tapestry of the human condition.

As we for clients, against AI alternatives or general market conditions, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and grind of success. Perhaps our real work is to show up as our best selves, finding meaning in work by filling that container with experiences that make the world a better place.”
