How to Get Online Sponsorships

Influencer marketing is here to stay and can lead to online sponsorships for thought leaders who have engaged communities. G2 published a template for social media influencer contracts that’s a great starting point for those conversations.

Let’s move past the traditional product-based relationship discussed in the article. The priorities discussed will drive traditional sponsorship agreements outside the association markets. Two things thought leaders need to navigate with online sponsorships:

• Expectations: Check out section #2 under objectives. Most of these are pretty subjective. This is where any analysis of your influence will stand out. Have this information ready before you go looking for these opportunities, so you can influence expectations.

• Content: Type of content can be a sticky situation. Because these relationships start in the marketing department, chief marketing officers (CMOs) may have ideas about how they want you to increase brand awareness. Be prepared with your editorial calendar and have ways to be flexible. You know your community and how much “selling” they will tolerate.

Until meetings and big events come back in full force, sponsorships will move online (and probably stay there). Use this template as a guide to map out what you need ahead of time so you can navigate this uncharted territory from a position of power.
