Another holiday weekend for the record books. We’re driving back home, so I’ve had time to ponder what Labor Day means to me amid labor shortages, supply chain issues, and other mishaps.

What I’ve noticed: We underestimate the power of what happens in the background until something grinds to a halt. We’ve gotten too used to going to the store and seeing full shelves.  To clicking “confirm order” and poof! Boxes magically appear at our door.

It looks effortless, but it isn’t. We don’t see all the people working hard to make those things happen. No matter how small someone’s role is, it’s big enough to make a difference. The ripple effect is real.

So, this Labor Day I celebrate the smallest of tasks. There’s dignity (and power) to the rote, everyday work, tasks completed day in and day out. In a connected world, size doesn’t matter.
