The Best Buying Experiences Don’t Feel Like Sales Pitches

Have you noticed that every “free” seminar or coaching offer out there feels like one-part general education and two parts high-pressure sales presentation? Nowadays, it seems like everything is a pitch masquerading as generosity.
Which is why I’m sharing this BizWomen article about the success of an old-school, low-pressure sales strategy called giving.
The feature highlights a pop-up event promoting a clothing line by football star Travis Kelce. In a world where most free giveaways are viewed as junk, this event stood out by offering relevant yet unrelated items such as drinks, snacks and, yes, a custom T-shirt for every visitor. Of course, there was music.
Sure, the clothes were available to browse. But there was no pressure to buy. In fact, visitors simply scanned a QR code to place an order. No money exchanged hands. Instead, the focus was on creating an experience of togetherness. As kids would say, creating a “vibe.”
Given the lack of trust today, low-pressure sales approaches allow folks to discover us without an agenda. Leading with authenticity could be the starting point for future conversations.
Am I proposing that we give up asking for business? Absolutely not. I’m suggesting that if our ideas are attractive enough, they will thrive without the constant pressure to get something in return.
