As we gear up for another holiday weekend, I’m celebrating our service members’ bravery by pondering how freedom shows up.

Freedom presents itself in so many beautiful ways. It comes in big, bold gestures that get all the attention. But it also surfaces in quiet moments that are no less powerful.

No matter what’s going on, we have the freedom to choose our response. We can stay, we can leave, or we can reframe so many situations. (The power to say yes or no cannot be underestimated.) Just as importantly, we control the stories we tell ourselves and each other about those choices. Our autonomy is rooted in those narratives.

So, here’s to celebrating independence with a commitment to fully use our freedom. We always have a choice, and we have more control than we sometimes realize. Let’s use this powerful force to promote well-being and the greater good.
