What Sacrifice Looks Like Now

This weekend, we in the United States take a break to remember our fellow citizens who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy our freedom-loving lifestyle. (And our God-given right to go shopping.) Given the lengthy time at war, I respectfully suggest that we redefine the term.

Thanks to medical technology, there are many soldiers who came home alive—broken bones and missing limbs, but alive. And because of multiple tours soldiers do and what happens in war zones, many come home with broken hearts. Instead of dying on the outside, they are dying on the inside.

These soldiers sacrificed their mental and emotional lives. They are still suffering. And I am skeptical that they are getting the help they need.

Perhaps the best way to honor those who gave their lives is to help their comrades who are still here and need an extra hand. There are many ways to help out. Let’s find our path and get to it.
