How to Leverage Your Influence In the Events Arena

2 ways to leverage your influence to get speaking gigs

I’ve written before about the rise of social media influencers. Corbin Ball’s article (yes, I’m a fan!) outlines how these influencers can play in the events arena. He has some great ideas.

Here are two points in particular you should pay attention to:

• The size of the event community doesn’t matter. The influence you have in this community does though.

Listen: How to pitch your influence

• Try to have a role in the planning process. Think about it: If you have a seat at the planning table, you can suggest experiences that feature your content.

Too many thought leaders look at speaking engagements as a short-term, end all and be all. Instead, play the long game. If you become known within a particular event’s community, your chances of gaining an inside track on speaking engagements is much higher than speakers who cold call the planners. I promise you.
