Between platform algorithms and shrinking attention spans, it’s getting harder to get people to engage with your social media posts. A recent PR Daily article offers some hope. The article outlines an interesting strategy that could help create a consistent content experience that keeps audiences engaged.

Marketing professionals included in the article raise an important point about audience participation. But the bigger insight they provide is the role predictability plays in building engagement.

Yes, consistency matters when it comes to showing up. But here are two areas that deserve that same level of commitment:

• Formats. Does your content follow a repeatable formula that your community can anticipate and look forward to? Or are you simply posting your latest insight? I see a lot of the latter. (Guilty as charged.)

• Emotional triggers. One key quote from the article: “The system includes roughly two dozen repeatable formats designed around different emotional triggers. … We program them really aggressively.” Ask yourself: Do you consistently use emotional triggers? Do you even have a list of them?

The goal is to become a habit for your buyers—that they look for your posts regularly. That happens when your content delivers a consistent experience that people know to expect—and look forward to.
