Your Speaking Gig Is Bigger Than the Speech

Event speaker expectations are changing—and not just when you step on stage, according to a recent MarketingProfs article on event marketing.

Gone are the days where you customized your content, showed up, and spoke. Promotion and engagement are top priorities now, which means your involvement has expanded both in length and depth. The biggest changes:

• From promo posts to in-depth content. Remember when clients would ask you to announce your appearance on social? That’s so 2024. Now, it’s full-on webinars and behind-the-scenes videos. Organizers want attendees to connect with your content before the event.

• More personalized follow-up. Events are expected to generate opportunities, so education doesn’t end after the closing program. Thanks to attendee data, follow-up can be more targeted and personalized, including smaller virtual discussions after the event.

These changing event speaker expectations reflect the shift from one-off events to continuous engagement and conversion. Keep this in mind the next time planners balk at your fee. You offer much more than a speech. You are part of a bigger effort.
