How Infographics Are Handy

I’ve been a big fan of infographics for a few years now. But there’s a good reason to show you this one by Headway Capital, lender for small businesses and creator of this infographic about LinkedIn.

Yeah, I was confused at first, but let’s move past that. Infographics have been used to outline a business case, to showcase lists, and now, to illustrate granular “how-to” processes. Skip down past the “here’s why” sections and check out the steps starting with “effective company page.”

Why processes within infographics work, and what thought leaders can copy:

• Details at a glance. The problem with many step-by-step pieces is they veer off into the weeds. These graphics, however, simplify the process without sacrificing specificity: the best of both worlds. How you can apply this: Think of your process in pictures. Infographics force us to streamline yet still be specific.

• Highlight recommendations. Go to step two, the “write a strong about” section. See those questions? They’re a great way to highlight both the key questions and nice word prompts. Also, check out the pro tips. These can also get lost in the shuffle, but they don’t here. They are highlighted but not so much that they take away from the process. Nice – and short – detours. This combination—key questions and word prompts for great answers—is a handy way to help.

A lot of us use formulas and templates. But using infographics with these strategies can be a great gateway to boost interest and distribution of more in-depth material.
