It’s time to pivot or make some big changes with your business. The problem: We. Are. Tired. It takes all the energy we have just to keep daily operations on track.

Business owner burnout is a very real thing, and it—along with inflation—are impacting small business owners.

When exhaustion hits, a common response is to power up and find the extra time and energy to make the extra effort. If that doesn’t work, people will play at the edges, rationalizing that “some progress is better than nothing.”

Neither is ideal for your business. The first option of powering up isn’t sustainable. And the second option takes too long and stalls the overall transition.

Instead, think about what I call preemptive substitution. Rather than adding to an already full schedule, exchange one activity for another. By swapping out tasks, you don’t have to find more time and energy. You’ll do different tasks in the same timeframe.

The first step: Figure out what you need to do instead. Yep, that’s easier said than done. But it’s easier than trying to do more in an already-packed schedule.
