In my younger days, New Year’s Eve was the start of a two-day party. Back then the bottomless mimosa was the breakfast of champions.

It may be quieter now, but it’s no less potent. Last week I drilled down on the “what” of my 2020 plans. Now I’m plotting the “how” this upcoming year affects the next phase of my business and personal life. Two key questions I ask myself:

• What do I need to get rid of? Not just stuff, but also old habits and relationships that have run their course, etc. If I don’t clear out what doesn’t work, I won’t have time for new opportunities. When I’m clear on the what and the who, the how just shows up.

• What do I need to learn more about? What new skills, habits, and mindsets do I need to adopt? Again, these are tools to carry me forward. When we expand what’s in the toolbox, we expand our options.

We don’t need to know all the details of how to get where we want to go. We just need to set the stage for the process to present itself.
