Path to the C-Suite

If you love data as much as I do, you’re doing a happy dance over the variety of studies that have been published in the past year on the performance of new CEOs.  This article from Strategy + Business looks at a variety of analysis and points out some key changes.

My favorite things include:

  • One study finds that hiring from a different industry has increased over the past decade.  Why do we care?  Those from outside industries get an initial thumbs down by the stock market, putting pressure on them to perform.  Their vulnerability can be an opportunity for us to help.
  • Outsider CEOs who have a broader work experience get paid significantly more (almost seven figures) than those with one-industry or company track records.  One theory why:  the broader perspective is a better fit for turbulent times.  Again, more opportunities for us.

The more we know about the perspective and the journey these leaders take, the better we can serve.  For more details, go to www.strategy-business.com and search for article 00185 (registration required).
