Why My Plans for 2026 Start with a Word (Not Resolutions)

Happy New Year! For those who know me well, you know I don’t do resolutions. Instead, as I think about my plans for 2026 and how I want to show up, I choose one word as my theme for the year. It’s like a north star to guide me.

This year that word is grace.

I chose that word because during 2025, I realized I had developed an unhealthy habit. My pride for completing tasks with extreme efficiency caused me to take a white-knuckle approach to life. I created my own anxiety by judging myself and others based on impossible standards.

This will be no more.

So, in 2026, I give myself and others grace. I will save my speed and urgency for when it’s really needed. When I don’t complete my to-do list, or if a situation goes sideways, my first reaction will be based on faith. Faith that it’s going be OK and that people meant well. My response will be based on grace.

Whatever we create, we can undo.

If you’re mapping out your plans for 2026, ask yourself what you’ve built that no longer serves you — and what you’re ready to undo. Start there — and let everything else unfold from that place.
