Procrastination. Yep, I’m guilty as charged, which is why a recent Fast Company article about combating procrastination got on my reading list.

Let’s move past the topic and drill down on how the author positioned a popular topic in a unique way. Two great tactics that you can copy:

• A new reframe at the beginning. Not willpower, but emotional regulation. This distinction changes everything. It creates a new lens through which the reader can see the new info – a vantage point so they can see their situation in a new light.

• The emotional focus. Yes, many of us use frames to change how folks perceive things. What makes this article different: the emotional one-two punch of motivation and forgiveness. The former expands the understanding of the intangible; the latter is aspirational and opens to door to do better.

A lot of us will either shy away from popular topics (“they’re oversaturated”) or address the issue with platitudes that we think will get attention. Instead, let’s use different ways to stand out with topics folks care about. That way, we can have the best of both worlds.
