It’s Time to Revisit Your Speaker Strategy

If you speak at events, now is the perfect time to evaluate your speaker strategy and the role speaking has on your business model. As you do, pay close attention to several trends that Axios says are impacting the events world, including these two:

• Content takes a back seat to engagement: Thanks to online learning, attendees want more networking and fewer lectures during in-person meetings. That means you must position your content to go beyond what attendees will learn. When pitching presentations, highlight who you can attract to those events and memorable moments you can create.

• Popular free speakers get picky: The novelty of speaking has worn off for many CEOs. These folks are now establishing strategic benchmarks before agreeing to present at an event. Watch for these expectations to trickle down to panel discussions and other formats. This is good news for consultants and experts who use workshops to create brand awareness.

It’s easy to put your speaker strategy on autopilot, especially if it’s generated a lot of leads over the years. Big changes are coming, though, and event organizers will not treat all speakers the same. Before you find yourself at the short end of the stick, revisit the role speaking plays in your business.
