Cool Way to Monetize Your Movement

Talk about timing. In my last post, I recommended practical ideas linked to a broader message or platform. Here’s a great example touted in Fast Company that all of us can adapt.

Good.co is all about the right fit. It acknowledges the importance of cultural fit in the world of work. But it goes beyond the typical “here’s who you are and your best environment” to comparing those attributes to specific companies. In other words, instead of giving the user data and asking them to figure it out themselves, their apps give you the answers.

This is important for us thought leaders for two reasons:

  1. As noted earlier, the avalanche of data makes our heads hurt. Assessments are not enough. We are now in the world of “just give me the dang answer.” These apps say they do that (keep in mind, I’m not signed up. At this point, I’m probably unemployable.)
  2. This tool has a bigger message. It says “everyone has a place. Let’s go find yours.” That’s hopeful, it’s encouraging. And still practical. It goes beyond the feel-good aspect, but takes advantage of the power of that yearning.

Many thought leaders are moving toward online learning. That’s OK. What will get more attention? The tools you create to help your community implement your message. Prediction: those tools will be the new currency of influence and monetize your movement.
