Am I the only one who is happy this year’s election is finally over? It’s been a month since Election Day, and I’m still celebrating the current reprieve from political commercials.

Where do we go from here? We thought leaders have a role to play during this post-election time, depending on our previous posts. From my non-scientific observations, most of our political missives fall into two categories:

• If you posted political opinions: Now is the time for grace on the ground. If your candidates won, don’t gloat. If your candidates lost, don’t vilify the winner. Reach out and focus on the work ahead. We have a lot of healing to do. There’s no place for revenge.

• If you posted issue-based articles as examples: Use after-game color commentary to show your expertise. Example: I have used political issues and commented on message strategies that work and don’t work. This is a great time to do some analysis and dissect the moving parts.

Elections have a tendency to suck up all the attention. You can leverage that focus to your advantage.
