The new metaverse storytelling app Kangaroo has people talking.

“With Kangaroo, a smartphone app, you can connect with … celebrities virtually, via a digital persona or avatar. The influencers create interactive stories in which they and their fans act out parts. Fans can also create custom stories of their own,” writes Sonya Herrera in a recent BizWoman article.

Yes, Kangaroo is for the consumer market and focuses on social media accounts that already have a lot of followers, but B2B providers can also learn from the platform. The big deal here is how stories are being used in the marketplace and how to use them to scale your influence.

Storytelling Ideas for B2B

Here are two storytelling ideas smaller shops in the B2B space can apply:

• Collaborations creates commitment. The Kangaroo app shows the power of collaborating on story-based content. The influencers open the door with interactions. Then users take over with their own narratives, which keeps them coming back for more. Most of us keep our engagement high with a steady stream of insightful anecdotes. A few of us now create platforms to share stories. Perhaps the next level of storytelling is creating digital adventures together by putting our clients in the scene. It’s an interesting possibility for online training tools and community building.

• The money is in the add-ons. Note that creating these narratives and the interactions are free. The revenue is on the back end: buying stuff for our avatar while participating in the stories. It’s a creative approach to the “river of nickels” strategy. This could work well for those who sell to the individual learner to upsell opportunities for a subscription-based business model.
